What is this leaderboard?

A public record of the local communities teaching Bitcoin in the My First Bitcoin Education Network, and of the work each of them has actually done.

Why it exists

My First Bitcoin's strategy is empowering those that empower others. The people doing that work are independent educators running their own communities, and until now there was no shared way to see what they had built. This makes it visible, so support (perks, mentorship, funding, donations) can reach the communities earning it rather than the ones that happen to be best known.

What a score is

Points for verifiable milestones and ongoing work: signing the Community Charter, publishing a bio and a budget, running cohorts, graduating students, certifying educators, onboarding merchants, hosting unconferences. Every rule and its point value is published on the Transparency page, and each entry traces back to a record in the network's own systems.

What it is not

Not a ranking of teaching quality, and not a headline count of students taught. A higher score means more recorded activity in the period you have selected, nothing more. Communities also join at different times, so a new community starting low is expected.

How to read it
  • On the leaderboard, the period chips above the table change the window every score is counted over, and clicking a row opens the full breakdown of where that community's points came from.
  • Find your community narrows the network to what you care about.
  • Unlock Perks shows what communities gain as they climb.

My First Bitcoin

Education Network Community Charter

Step 1 I. Introduction to the Education Network

Our Mission

Open source Bitcoin Education for the World.

We have made our curriculum fully open source so that anyone, anywhere can teach Bitcoin. No permission from My First Bitcoin needed.

Whether you want to introduce Bitcoin education in a school, university, church or your local community, you are free to use, adapt, and translate our materials. Our goal is to make high-quality Bitcoin education as accessible as possible.

Using our open source curriculum does not require joining the Education Network. If you choose to build independently, we sincerely wish you success. There are many ways to contribute to Bitcoin education, and we believe a diversity of approaches strengthens the movement. But, learning from other peers is an important part of developing ourselves. That’s why we’re building a global network of educational communities: the Education Network.

Building a Global Network for Bitcoin Education

The Education Network exists to connect independent Communities that share a common commitment to high-quality Bitcoin education.

My First Bitcoin started this initiative, but every Community in the network is autonomous. Each Community is responsible for its own leadership, operations, fundraising, and local strategy. The network exists to support Communities, not to control them.

By sharing knowledge, best practices, and educational resources, we aim to accelerate Bitcoin education worldwide while preserving the independence of every Community.

Joining the Network

Communities that align with the Education Network's principles may apply to join the My First Bitcoin Education Network.

Joining the Leaderboard requires:

  • Agreeing to uphold the 6 Community Principles by signing this Charter
  • Demonstrating active Bitcoin education in your local community.
  • Completing the onboarding process.

Once accepted, every Community is an equal member of the network.

Communities build reputation through the quality and consistency of their work. Reputation is publicly reflected on the My First Bitcoin Leaderboard and may unlock additional opportunities, support, or collaborations.

More information is available at: leaderboard.myfirstbitcoin.org

Step 2 II. Community Principles

Every Community that joins the Education Network agrees to uphold the following six principles.

Step 3 III. Benefits of Joining the Education Network

Joining the Education Network connects your Community with a global network of Bitcoin educators who share knowledge, collaborate on initiatives, and support one another in advancing Bitcoin education.

Communities on the My First Bitcoin Leaderboard may unlock additional resources and opportunities as they build reputation through consistent, high-quality work. Examples of these perks include:

  • A public Community profile and directory listing.
  • Personalized onboarding and ongoing support from the My First Bitcoin team.
  • Opportunities to be featured across My First Bitcoin's website, social media, newsletter, and podcast.
  • Access to fundraising resources, operational guides, and community-building tools.
  • Invitations to collaborate on network initiatives, events, and conferences.
  • Eligibility for additional educational, technical, and community support as new programs become available.
  • Ability to join the My First Bitcoin Board of Advisors (BoA), alongside other top communities as well as thought leaders in the space. See the current BoA at myfirstbitcoin.org/about

The available perks, eligibility criteria, and Leaderboard structure may evolve over time as the network grows. For the most up-to-date list of perks and how Communities unlock them, check the Perks page.

Step 4 IV. Sign the Charter

This Charter establishes the Community identified below, and the Education Network constructed by My First Bitcoin.

My First Bitcoin is a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating and maintaining open source Bitcoin education. The Community independently uses these educational materials to teach Bitcoin within its local context.

My First Bitcoin commits to:

  • Maintain and improve the open source curriculum.
  • Share educational resources and best practices.
  • Provide onboarding guidance where appropriate.
  • Foster collaboration among Communities in the Education Network.
  • Maintain the My First Bitcoin Leaderboard and recognize Communities based on demonstrated work and reputation.

The Community commits to:

  • Uphold the six Community Principles outlined in this document.
  • Operate independently while remaining aligned with the mission of the Education Network.
  • Deliver honest, impartial, Bitcoin-only education.
  • Represent its work truthfully.
  • Continue actively educating people within its community.
  • Understand that participation on the Leaderboard, recognition, and additional opportunities are determined by My First Bitcoin based on demonstrated contribution, reputation, and alignment with the Community Principles.

This Charter remains in effect until either party chooses to end its participation. My First Bitcoin may also end this Charter if the Community no longer upholds the Community Principles outlined in this Charter or if continued collaboration is no longer appropriate.

If a violation of the principles outlined in the Charter is reported to My First Bitcoin by fellow educators, we will reach out to discuss the case. This may trigger a 30-day grace period to address the issue. If there is no response or meaningful improvement during this period, the community will be automatically removed from the list of active nodes.

This Charter reflects the full understanding between the parties regarding this relationship and replaces any previous agreements or understandings relating to it. Any changes to this Charter must be made in writing and agreed to by both parties.

Step 5 Your Community's details
